Celestron NexStar 114GT Telescope

Celestron NexStar 114GT Telescope

Celestron likes to say, "the only simple thing about NexStar is its operation," and we have to agree. The sophisticated NexStar 114 GT is quite easy to assemble, even for a complete novice. Once you put the scope together and mount it on the sturdy aluminum tripod (also included), simply take the hand control with illuminated dual 16-character LCD display, and dial in the date, location, and position of north. Using its quiet, high-precision servo motor, the NexStar automatically aligns itself with the night sky.

Product Review

The telescope is a beginner's telescope. First off, the previous reviewer noted that his instruction book was not complete for the 114. This has been changed by Celestron: The current telescope treats the 114 as a peer, and all the documentation is in the manual.

I will preface this review with the following caution: I AM A BEGINNER IN THE WORLD OF ASTRONOMY!!! Now, having thrown down that gauntlet, let me explain to you the virtues of this particular telescope made by Celestron

This telescope is being sold at Costco for $200. Given the price, simplicity of setup and the decent quality of the scope, I would recommend it to any casual hobbyist. Hurry before they run out-of-stock.
