Meade ETX-90EC Telescope

The revolutionary Meade ETX-90EC goes anywhere with you at a moments notice and presents high-quality optical images in an ultraportable package. For the casual or beginning observer the Meade ETX-90EC may be all the telescope ever required. Or, for the advanced astronomer who already owns a larger instrument, the ETX-90EC is the perfect diffraction-limited field telescope.

The relative explosion of consumer-oriented telescopes in the past few years has been a boon to the child in all of us who has always wanted to fulfill that dream of traveling to the moon and beyond. Remember back to age 7? Remember when you were just sure that you wanted to be a.

The ETX-90 was hailed by Sky and Telescope and many others when it first appeared as the dream telescope everyone had been waiting for. It looked really cool. It looked like a new version of the legendary Questar 3.5" Maksutovs which, 50 years after they first appeared, still have no equal.

I've always been intrigued by astronomy and wanted a telescope to explore the solar system. I finally bought an ETX90 with high expectations. The first thing I discovered was it's hard to set up a telescope for accurate orientation to the North Star if you have limited visibility to the north!

Meade LX90 8109031 Telescope

Meade LX90 8109031 Telescope

LX90 8''/2000mm f/10 Astro Telescope - Motorized Schmidt-Cassegrain with #497 Autostar Computer Hand Control, Autostar Suite Software, Lunar Planetary Imager, Tripod & Ultra-High Transmission Coatings

Product Review

In all of the hype about GPS-capable mounts, Meade's LX-90 seems to have been left behind by its glitzier SCT relatives. For most observers this telescope offers impressive capabilities at a reasonable price. What it does well is point in the right direction, gather light well, and let the observer.

My first telescope was a 1984 Celestron Super C8 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain. That was a great first scope, highly portable. It did have some deficiencies - hard to handle tripod, difficult to polar align. After about 6 years, I came down with "Twoinchitis"

What an amazing scope! I love the optics and the Autostar computer. The learning curve is not too bad...I never had a SCT computerized scope before, but I learned within a few sessions and have been enjoying myself ever since.

This is a wonderful scope. Compact enough to transport and take to dark places. This is not a cheap or inexpensive scope by any means. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. You can spend a lot less, you can spend a ton more. But.. For the money, this has to be the best scope around. I have.

This is a real nice scope that gives nice clean views. I'd prefer a bit more aperature (who wouldn't) but for the price you will get some very nice viewing. Even in my backyard with the five street lights bleaching things out I can still get good detail on some of the brighter deep space objects.

People who run out and buy these scopes when first released show little experience with the market. ALWAYS wait a year or more to buy. I even apply this rule to digital cameras with a 6 month rule. Wait until bugs are worked out!

Celestron AstroMaster 114 EQ Telescope

Celestron AstroMaster 114 EQ Telescope

The AstroMaster Series produce bright, clear images of the Moon and planets. It is easy to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. For views of the brighter deep space objects like galaxies and nebulae, we recommend the larger aperture and light gathering ability of the Newtonian reflectors.

I had been thinking for quite some time that I would like to have a telescope. I did considerable research, and I know a bit about the designs and possibilities of many different ones. The result of this, of course, is that I'd like to have an 8" Cassegrain with a GOTO equatorial mount.

A small f9 Newtonian with a modifying lens in the eyepiece train to shorten the tube. It has two eyepieces (x50 & x100), two tube rings and a red dot finder. I don't like the finder - too bright. A right-angled telescope finder would be nice but more expensive. The tube rings have 1/4 inch threaded.

I'm a beginner stargazer and I got the telescope through Air Miles based on reviews that I had read. I've always been interested in learning about astronomy and figured this was a good way to start seeing as the Astromaster 114EQ is a beginner's telescope.

Celestron NexStar 114GT Telescope

Celestron NexStar 114GT Telescope

Celestron likes to say, "the only simple thing about NexStar is its operation," and we have to agree. The sophisticated NexStar 114 GT is quite easy to assemble, even for a complete novice. Once you put the scope together and mount it on the sturdy aluminum tripod (also included), simply take the hand control with illuminated dual 16-character LCD display, and dial in the date, location, and position of north. Using its quiet, high-precision servo motor, the NexStar automatically aligns itself with the night sky.

The telescope is a beginner's telescope. First off, the previous reviewer noted that his instruction book was not complete for the 114. This has been changed by Celestron: The current telescope treats the 114 as a peer, and all the documentation is in the manual.

I will preface this review with the following caution: I AM A BEGINNER IN THE WORLD OF ASTRONOMY!!! Now, having thrown down that gauntlet, let me explain to you the virtues of this particular telescope made by Celestron

This telescope is being sold at Costco for $200. Given the price, simplicity of setup and the decent quality of the scope, I would recommend it to any casual hobbyist. Hurry before they run out-of-stock.
